OCR: Many compacts, particularly the zooms, are fitted with a filter thread infront of the lens. This allows some types of circular filters to be fitted. The shot on the left was taken with a cross screen filter, which would work perfectly well on a compact. Others, such as polarisers can be used, but may need for the viewe to look at the scene through the filter first to get it in the correct position, then fit it to the lens in the same way. A compact carried in the pocket can lead to some good shots. In this case it was the shooting of an episode of Oliver Twist by the BBC in Lincoln. I asked the floor manager if I could take some pictures and was given the OK as long as I stopped when a scene was being shot. The actors and extras were all very helpful, and a whole series of pictures were taken on both a compact and Single Lens Reflex.
